I am not sure where you get the "low build quality", I have an 8008 and had a 4004 from the same era, there's nothing wrong with the build quality. The Nikon N4004s (as shown in your photo) was an entry level 35mm film camera with low build quality ~1988 I will probably keep my D7200 with a D90 backup forever, I will croak before they are both worn out. I have had nearly zero luck with those, I cannot get them to do what I want. In fact, I bought a D7200 fairly recently, because it was much less expensive than a D7500 and would still work with pin-drive autofocus lenses.ĭSLRs in general are on the way out, I think, in favor of mirrorless cameras. The D90 was a marked improvement over the D80, but the D7500 (the current equivalent) isn't tremendously better than a D90. The time of the D90 was about where they got good enough that they stopped being semi-disposable, or obsolete in 6 months. If you know people, you might get a D80 for free. A quick look shows that you can probably get a working D80 in very good shape for around $100. However, I am sure you can get a working D80 or D90 for very cheap on eBay. It can certainly be repaired, Nikon USA, and it won't be inordinately expensive. I do like the flexibility of a digital SLR. So, what to do?īuy another Nikon, a Cannon? I dunno.

A search of the Internet shows that to be (unfortunately) a common issue. There is a problem with the lens communicating with the body. What irritates me is that cell phone cameras work so very well, seriously!īut I have a Nikon D-80 which displays "err" on power up. Pics, Bold & underlined text, are usually links.

I've used a Nikon D7000 now for several years and the ability to take unlimited pix, not to mention modern Cell fone cameras, for free almost, is a real boon to those who enjoy the hobby, and other hobbies that benefit from the use of same. With the introduction of 5MP and larger formats the digital camera became a viable alternative to film. Both my Son and Daughter received basic "training" in the art of taking and developing their own pictures as youngsters, so they will have "some" appreciation of what they are, when I leave.

I used Nikon "F"s for over 30 years, both circumnavigated the world a couple times during their tenure.ĭon't think I'll ever sell them or any of the bags full of accessories and lenses. I certainly agree!! It's painful to see the old work horses go out to pasture, but it seems one of the old film makers has re-introduced one of the old films for those who still enjoy the old tech.
